Crocodiles river dancing in Egypt. Sorry that has nothing to do with this essay i just needed to get your attention. Going against the crowd is not an easy thing to do because when you go against the crowd you're going against the majority, civil rights movements, and when you walk in a river going upstream the water is going against you.
Going against the crowd. Now in that sentence, "the crowd", is meaning the majority. So if going against "the crowd" it means going against the majority. The majority is the biggest amount, whereas the minority is the smaller amount. When going against the crowd the minority (smaller amount) is going up against the majority (larger amount). This is like a small dog trying to fight of a huge T-rex. It's very difficult and hard to do. When having the majority of people disagreeing and fighting against anyone its gonna be a hard thing to do. For one you're out numbered but there's all sorts of pure pressure that comes from this and criticism. It's not easy.
Just the other day i was up in the canyon taking pictures with my gamily. While up there i tried to walk in the River. When walking up stream there is tons of force of running water that makes it hard to walk. Along with this rushing water there are slick rocks that make it near impossible to get a good foot hold. With this combination of powerful waters and slick rocks its very hard to walk upstream. This is just like going against the crowd. There are forces that will prevent someone from doing something and they'll create opposition that will slow and/or push them down.
During the civil rights movement there was a lot of opposition. The minority was fighting the majority. Blacks fought for their rights and it wasn't easy. They were arrested, beat, and even killed. One of the greatest examples of going against the crowd during this time was Martin Luther King Jr. He fought against the crowd in a peaceful way and it was hard and filled a lot of tribulation that ended in his death. It wasn't an easy thing for him to do and it takes great and strong people to be able to stand for what they believe in and do what is not normally done.
All in all its not an easy thing to go against the crowd. Going against opposition and the majority make it hard and most people don't want to deal with it because it's too difficult. The civil rights gave examples of going against the crowd, walking upstream of a river simulates going against the crowd in a different way, and its hard having the majority against you.
